Teacher Development through Exploration: Principles, Ways, and Examples. Jerry G. Gebhard Indiana University of Pennsylvania Abstract. To truly develop as teachers, we need to be free to explore teaching, and exploration can be based on a . Challenger Learning Center of Orleans, Niagara and Erie Counties: Using space exploration as a theme, the Challenger Learning Center of Orleans, Niagara and Erie Counties will create positive learning experiences that raise students’ expectations of success; foster a long-term interest in mathematics, science and technology; and motivate them to pursue careers in these fields. The nine planets are Mercury, Jupiter, Neptune, Earth, Venus, Mars, Saturn, Uranus and Pluto. The sun and its nine planets belong to one solar system. Solar means the sun. Our Sun's total solar system is made from: the sun, nine planets, their satellites, comets and asteroids.

Education. Our focus was on space astrophysics and planetary exploration, with a special emphasis on the themes of the Origins Program, with which the Principal Investigator (PI) had been involved from the outset. Teaching, Learning, and Planetary Exploration was also the core funding of the Space Telescope Science.

Course Code: SPST Course ID: Credit Hours: 3 Level: Undergraduate This course is a summary of U.S. and international space programs. The student will assess the Earth and its space environment, to include methods of scientific exploration and spacecraft and payload criteria at the basic physics level.

These activities will take your students on a journey around the world and beyond, helping them gain insight into everything ranging from geography down here on planet Earth.

At the Exploratorium, we view learning broadly and believe there are different ways of learning and knowing: through direct experience with phenomena, through art, through dialogue, and through tinkering.

We work to change the way the world learns and to promote equal access to these powerful ways of learning about the world. This website offers a collection of essays, book reviews, sample syllabi, and lesson plans focused on innovative approaches to teaching global history from a variety of perspectives.

It is the product of an environmental humanities graduate seminar "What is world history. Space, Nature, and History" taught by Prof. Elizabeth Hennessy at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Free exploration is the one time that we permit learning at school to match the ways our students learn naturally at home. For free exploration and for home, there are:File Size: KB. Inquiry learning requires being prepared mentally and physically for the process.

The mental process might be more of a personal philosophical change about teaching and learning. PSRD Planetary Science Research Discoveries educational site sharing the latest research on planets, meteorites, and other solar system bodies being made by NASA-sponsored scientists.

How I Gave My Preschool Class Mars Fever. It all started when we read a book called, NASA's Mars Exploration Rover Spirit captured this stunning view as the Sun sank below the rim of Gusev crater on Mars. Halfway through our Sixth Annual Summer Reading Contest, a few things have becomewe’re on track to break previous records, since we’re now receiving or more entries each week, and we suspect that, as school deadlines loom, we’ll get many hundreds beyond that each week in August.

The themes are well chosen and motivational (planetary exploration, assisting the infirm, mini-golf) and the use of a standard robot base simplifies the teacher’s work.

The book presents a 50 hour course but many teachers will need to make a selection of exercises to fit tighter time restraints, as I did/5(22). Wes Watters, Diana Chapman Walsh Assistant Professor of Astronomy, was a member of NASA's Mars Exploration Rover science team for eight years before he came to experience was the inspiration, he said, for ASTR Hands-on Planetary Exploration, a course that allows students to design and build a probe to explore a specific.

Concept Exploration and Refinement Team Studies () [This study was supported by eleven teams and looked at approaches to lunar exploration in the context of the VSE. Each team developed their own approach, including scope and scale, to lunar exploration in the – timeframe and built an architecture to support this approach.

I created this planet flip book that is a fun way to introduce the order of the planets from the sun. This activity is simple and effective, all while pullin.

Planetary scientists seek answers to fundamental questions that involve the extended family of planets, moons, asteroids, and other bodies in the Solar System. Chief areas of planetary research at the School of Earth and Space Exploration include Mercury, the Moon, Mars, meteorites, and Jupiter's moon Europa.

The School's scientists are engaged in exploring these. Read the Background Information & Suggestions to learn about the solar system and characteristics of planets and moons, their movement, and the history and exploration surrounding planetary research.

Teaching suggestions are also provided. Review student lesson sections Parts I, II, III. View the on-line planetary images. The giant planets hold most of the mass in our planetary system. Jupiter alone exceeds the mass of all the other planets combined (Figure ). The material available to build these planets can be divided into three classes by what they are made of:.

Beyond Neptune, a newer class of smaller worlds called dwarf planets reign, including perennial favorite Pluto. The age of space exploration opened in the sixth decade of the 20th century.

In its first two decades, robot probes and then human beings first ventured beyond the limits of Earth's atmosphere. Eventually, humans landed on the Moon. Probes have since gone on to explore the far realms of the solar system and beyond.

Teachers have an intimate knowledge of the teaching and learning process; astronomers can provide advice on curriculum content and resources, and share the exploration of Mars by Pathfinder is an obvious example. such as day and night, seasons, moon phases, planetary orbits, and some descriptive material about the planets and starsCited by: 4.

The concept of the four Cs — the 21st-century skills of critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity — suggests the need for more integrated, problem- and inquiry-based, and hands-on approaches to teaching and learning.

Eyewitness: Space Exploration This is a spectacular and informative guide to the mysteries beyond Earth and the history of space exploration, including original photography of spacecraft, astronauts, satellites and planets. In this 2 part series we’re “learning how we learn,” and “learning how we teach.” There are 7 different learning and teaching styles, with specific astrological correlations.

The 7 different learning styles are well-researched, and clearly correlate to the planetary styles of learning.

Teaching Astronomy: Selected Teaching Aids for Schools: Science Reference Guides from the Library of Congress For both pure and applied science, astronomy is a constantly evolving field as exploration reaches farther into space, as technology for telescopes and space travel develops, and as the search for life beyond our own planet.
